Open call: Participate in international group mobility – Digital skills and cultural expression in Madrid
March 11, 2026In collaboration with Upplev Europa, Europa Direkt Stockholm and Intercult present a series of open lectures on the theme of democracy in spring 2026. It is now time to present the second part of the series:
How does false information affect public debate and trust in democratic institutions?
In an era where AI and false narratives challenge open discourse, European democracies are facing major challenges. In this open lecture by Åsa Wikforss, professor of theoretical philosophy and member of the Swedish Academy, we will learn more about how democracy is damaged in the digital information landscape and what is needed to reverse the trend. Åsa Wikforss will also shed light on the interplay between psychology and digital technology and show how we can safeguard knowledge and strengthen democratic discourse in an increasingly polarized time.
Åsa Wikfors’ research focuses on knowledge, truth and how disinformation affects democratic societies. She is the author of the books “Alternative Facts” and “Therefore Democracy”.
