EU Day at Södertörn University
April 16, 2025This spring, multidisciplinary artist and performer Zoe Franzén Lakides will be in Evia, Greece for a one-month international residency as part of the Turning the Tide project. Beginning shortly after Easter, the residency brings together artists from across the globe to explore ideas around transformation, community, and ecological awareness.
Zoe, who is of Swedish, Australian, and Greek descent, is based in Stockholm, Sweden and is a graduate of the Stockholm University of the Arts. Her artistic work has been featured in performance spaces and theatres throughout Sweden and Spain, and is known for its physical precision, imaginative storytelling, and emotional resonance.
With a background in acting, mime, dance, and circus, Zoe’s creative language is rooted in movement. Her performances are often vivid and playful, yet grounded in deep emotional inquiry—exploring the landscape of the human mind through the body. She works fluently in ensemble settings as well as solo formats, always with a clear drive to connect with audiences.
Though physical movement is central to her work, Zoe often incorporates spoken text, drawing from her fluency in Swedish, English, and Spanish. Still, her performances speak beyond language, tapping into something universally human—thanks to her training in mime and physical theater, she is never bound by borders.
The Turning the Tide residency offers Zoe the opportunity to develop new work in a place that connects closely to her Greek heritage. Her time in Evia will be concluded with a public presentation of her residency production on May 16, as part of the International Lab event. In addition, her work will also be featured in the online exhibition of the project, extending its reach to a broader international audience.
Zoe Lakides continues to create work that is bold, embodied, and deeply human—work that speaks to the imagination as much as to the intellect. Her presence in Evia is another step in a practice defined by curiosity, collaboration, and a powerful language of movement that transcends borders.
Stay tuned for updates from Zoe as she creates, collaborates, and brings movement and storytelling to life in a whole new setting.
