Turning the Tide – The Stockholm Lab 15-17 October
June 26, 2025Intercult, lead partner of the European project Turning the Tide (TTT), in collaboration with Stadgårdsterminalen and Kollektivet Livet, invites local artists to apply for a residency in Stockholm. This residency is part of a cross-sectoral European initiative addressing one of the most urgent global challenges: the climate crisis in coastal cities.
We are looking for artists whose practice is socially engaged and who are passionate about exploring the intersection of art, climate justice, and urban development. Through this residency, artists will work with the community to reflect on environmental challenges, social justice, and collective resilience in the face of climate change.

About the Residency
The residency focuses on the area of Slussen, a central, historic, and rapidly transforming part of Stockholm. Artists will create an artwork for and exhibited exclusively at Stadsgårdsterminalen, a unique venue and cultural meeting place with panoramic views of Stockholm’s inner city.
While the artwork will be presented at Stadsgårdsterminalen, the creative process extends into the surrounding area, inviting artists to engage deeply with the local environment, residents, and urban fabric.
During their time in the residency, selected artists will:
- Conduct site-based research into the social, ecological, and infrastructural changes in Slussen and central Stockholm.
- Engage with local residents, stakeholders, and public institutions to understand the environmental, historical, and urban dynamics of the area.
- Develop collaborative, socially-engaged artistic work that reflects the residency’s themes of climate justice and collective resilience in waterfront cities.
- Present their work during the Stockholm International Lab, taking place October 15–17, 2025, attended by community members, cultural professionals, and project partners.
- Submit a digital version of their final work for inclusion in the TTT Digital Exhibition, sharing residency outcomes with international audiences.

About Stadsgårdsterminalen – The Exhibition Venue
In the middle of Slussen, with panoramic views over Stockholm’s inner city and waterfront, lies Stadsgårdsterminalen — a vibrant meeting place where creativity, culture, and community come together.
Once a ferry terminal, today it is a space in constant transformation — open, welcoming, and full of possibilities. Stadsgårdsterminalen hosts events, exhibitions, and initiatives that spark dialogue and bring people together across different fields.
For this residency, Stadsgårdsterminalen will be both the inspiration and the home for the final artwork. Artists will create work specifically for this space, reflecting its unique character and connection to the city. The finished work will be exhibited exclusively at Stadsgårdsterminalen, becoming part of its evolving story as a creative hub for Stockholm.

About the project:
Turning the Tide (TTT) is an ambitious EU artistic project of interdisciplinary dialogue that aims to creatively respond to the threat of the climate crisis in coastal cities. The project aims to engage local residents, amplify unheard voices and raise awareness of climate issues in coastal cities. Through collaboration in and between four cities, TTT uses a cultural planning methodology and works with socially engaged artists. The project is an international experiment exploring how artists can contribute to the climate change narrative and exploring climate justice. The TTT project includes 5 partner countries – Intercult (Sweden), Artit (Greece), Vienna Education Academy (Austria), DEAR HUNTER (Netherlands) and Urban Culture Institute (Poland) in collaboration with Fablevision (Scotland) and River//Cities Network.
