Theatre in Palm

About the project

Intercult is one of 12 partners in the 'Theatre in Palm' project , the first Creative Europe platform project dedicated to the performing arts!

Theatre in Palm (TIP) will establish between 2022-2025 a digital platform for performing arts professionals that can be a springboard for European exchanges and intercultural cooperation. The main objective of the project is to foster the development of emerging performing artists and to expand networks and collaborations between the different project member countries. This pioneering project is coordinated by Turku UAS. In addition to Sweden, cultural organizations and theatres from Italy, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Greece, Belgium, Cyprus, Romania and Bulgaria are participating.

Theatre in Palm will shine a light on emerging European performing artists and their work, which will be visible beyond their national borders. This will help other professionals to connect with new artists and audiences. In the long run, we see that the circulation of artists and their works generates new and more sustainable public spaces to experience culture. In this way, TIP is an audience promotion project that increases accessibility and participation in cultural events both locally and internationally.

Participating artists will be provided with an interactive map to guide them in where - and how far - they want to take their careers. They will be offered advice and support, work experience and inspiration, both from local and international actors.

Activities Intercult will offer during the project:

  • Digital, hybrid and physical residency
The residencies pair 20 emerging Swedish performing artists with participants from a selected member country ("duo"). Experienced tutors organize and guide the work, which gives rise to deeper international collaborations and mutual exchange between the participants.
  • "Go and See" mobilities
Intercult hosts representatives from member organizations and organizes a program of study visits and activities that raise awareness of Swedish theatre and culture. Intercult also visits member countries' activities to create deeper contact and connections between our mutual working methods.
  • "Digital Coffee talks"
Intercult will organize and host two interactive webinars exploring the digital performing arts: what it looks like today, its opportunities and its challenges.
  • "European Theatre Labs"
Intercult is organizing 6 workshops/training sessions at local level. Topics will be chosen individually by artistic directors and experts. These sessions will give the participants, newly established performing artists, the opportunity to exchange new contacts, methods and further develop in their field.
  • "Theater Academy"
In August 2024, Intercult will organize a training session aimed at national and international emerging performing artists. As an organizer, Intercult invites experts to lead the program.
  • "Theater movement"
Intercult is organizing 5 local performances as a result of the project collaboration. Through an open stage and productions by emerging artists, the aim is to present social issues that the artists have chosen to raise.

The project culminates in international theater performances and festivals "Theatre Roadshow" in the different countries, as well as in a digital archive collecting all performances and useful information "Theatre Repository".

With the performing arts close to its heart, Intercult is participating in this project with great enthusiasm. Intercult has long been involved in similar projects, including SEAS Baltic/Adriatico & Second Wave, a series of cultural actions and traveling festivals in Europe between two seas and in 13 different port cities; PARC, the creation of training centers for professional performing arts in Palestine; and Baltic Audience Links, an international project on audience development in the Baltic Sea region. As an organization, we know that international collaborations in culture can give rise to previously unexplored expressions and opportunities that drive culture forward.
