Status report: The role and value of culture in European policies
October 10, 2024The European elections are now less than 3 weeks away! In the run-up to the European elections, Europe Direct Stockholm has taken the opportunity to make extra school visits during spring 2024.
We have made several school visits where we visited high school classes to both lecture on the EU and the European elections, but also organize interactive workshops. We have made two visits to Kungstensgymnasiet and one visit to Vallentuna gymnasium. The main purpose of the visits has been to inform first-time voters that there are European elections this year. Also to encourage students to vote and to increase their knowledge about the EU. During the visit to Vallentuna, the newspaper Vallentuna Nya also wrote an article about our visit. If you want to read the article, you can do so here. In addition to our physical visits to schools, we have also conducted a digital lecture for Viktor Rydbergs gymnasium.
The EU offers a wealth of information, resources and materials for teachers and students who want to learn more about the EU. Especially the Learning Corner, where there are plenty of learning materials for students of all ages. From simplified explanations on how an EU law is created, to interactive games to learn more about EU free movement. We also recommend visiting Experience Europe at Kulturhuset in Stockholm if you want to take your EU knowledge to the next level. You can try out the role of an MEP through their role play and learn how an EU law is created. If there is something you are interested in reading more about, you can do so here.
Europa Direkt Stockholm will continue with school visits during the fall and if you are a teacher, it is great to write to us to book a visit. The visits are completely free of charge and we can customize the visits based on what you are interested in hearing more about. Whether it’s a general introduction to the EU, a specialized area of EU policy or a workshop, we can help. If you would like to book a visit, the easiest way to do so is to email us at europadirekt@intercult.se.
