The E-ART project seeks to engage art professionals and leading figures in the fields of education and sustainability, with deep insight in the common issues of the art world in moving towards a greener future. It is important to apply a green mindset and sustainable methods in all artistic fields, but in order to do so we need trailblazers and inspirational leaders.
Alice Máselníková and Annika Nieminen Bromberg are two such figures, both working in Sweden and internationally.
Máselníková is a visual artist, curator, and project manager. She is one of the creative directors of the independent art fair Supermarket, which is in 2025 held underneath the shopping centre of Skärholmen in Stockholm’s suburb. The art fair is a haven for independent artists from all countries and backgrounds and is an annual event to not miss. Each edition has a different theme; 2024’s was “Dream On” and next year we are looking forward to “Passion”. Alice also has a background in education and has designed a course for example for the prestigious Swedish art school Konstfack. She is the founder of the artist- and curator-run collective Flat Octopus, which promotes specifically young and less-established artists and provides them with exhibition, networking and collaboration opportunities. She also co-founded the European project Artist-Run Network Europe.
Bromberg is a freelancing costume and set designer working in Sweden and abroad. As a European Climate Pact Ambassador she is part of a network that seeks to inspire people and organisations to implement sustainability measures all over the EU. Among her many works that deal with sustainability is the creation of stage costumes made entirely with recycled fabrics for the stage production “Maskerad” at Malmö Opera House 2024. All costumes and corpus object were taken from the opera storage and refurbished into new creations. Bromberg means that artists have an important role in handling the consequences of climate emergencies. At the moment of writing, she is involved in the new production of Hamlet at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki.
Bromberg and Máselníková have been instrumental in the development of the E-ART project, where their expertise have helped shape the structure and content of the Sustainable Arts Curriculum and the Sustainable Practices Handbook. Stay tuned for the launch of the Curriculum!
