May to August 2024
Intercult, the lead partner of the European project Turning the Tide (TTT), invites local artists to apply for a digital residency in Stockholm.
Would you like to be part of our cross-border initiative that addresses the climate crisis in waterfront cities through art?
We welcome the artists who are committed to socially engaged art and are dedicated to social justice, environmental protection and coastal climate issues. The local residency will last for 3 months, allowing artists time for research and the creation of artistic works in the digital realm, delivering presentations and visual outputs of their residency. The final outcome and method of presentation of the works will be mutually agreed between the artists and the curator during the residency, giving the artists the opportunity to present the results of their research in the best and fullest possible way.
Artists should be available for online meetings before, during and after the residency for feedback and follow-up on the work in progress. At least 1 artist’s webinar will be organised to also make a digital dialogue possible between local and international participants.
LOCAL URBAN LABS
Artists selected as part of the 3-month digital residencies will participate in Local Urban Labs (LUL). Through workshops, meetings and events organised within LUL, the artists will explore and deepen their knowledge of the project’s themes (social justice, environmental and climate issues) by working in the digital realm, presenting their projects and presentations during the digital residencies, and supporting the artists selected through the international residencies.
The results of the local residency will be developed and presented on the project’s website and social media.
REQUIREMENTS
TTT welcomes professional artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, including but not limited to visual arts, performance and multimedia.
Artists are expected to actively engage with local communities, fostering meaningful connections and collaboration. We welcome applications from artists at any stage of their career who can fully commit to the programme of events and artistic process.
Previous experience with projects focused on nature, ecology or socially engaged art will be valued but does not represent a condition for participation.
Good english skills are required.
EXPENSES
In exchange for the participation in the project, artists selected for the local residency will receive a fee of €3000.
The artists are invited to work 30 days spread in a period of three months (2/5/2024-3/8/2024).
If you are interested in the local residency in Stockholm you are welcome to apply via this link by the 1th of April 2024
About the project:
Turning the Tide (TTT) is an ambitious artistic intervention and transdisciplinary dialogue that aims to creatively respond to the specific threat of the climate crisis in waterfront cities. The project aims to engage local residents, amplify unheard voices and raise awareness of climate issues in waterfront cities. Through a collaborative effort in four cities, TTT uses a cultural planning methodology and works with socially engaged artists to lead an international experiment that explores the potential contributions of artists and local communities, residents to the climate change narrative, and explores climate justice.
The TTT project includes 5 partner countries – Intercult (Sweden), Artit (Greece), Vienna Education Academy (Austria), DEAR HUNTER (Netherlands) and the Urban Culture Institute (Poland) in collaboration with Fablevision (Scotland) and the River//Cities Network.
